Love Changes Everything
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. —Romans 12:10 (NLT) Makers of Care transforms & empowers Caregivers, rekindles human value, and ignites HOPE
Yvonne's Story
She was the primary Caregiver for her husband—who was on hospice—and was overwhelmed with the thought of trying to sell a 5th wheel and truck that he was too sick to get into. Yvonne bought the first car she viewed, but it turned out to be a lemon. They blew a tire on the freeway and later found out that the car’s tire sizes didn’t even match.
She was stranded again! Forced to replace the tires, she still felt uneasy about the safety of the car but couldn’t find a solution because she was exhausted from caring for her husband and didn’t know who to call for help.
Makers of Care is like a matchmaker, looking at the specific needs of the Caregiver (there is no cookie-cutter!) and connects them to a carefully curated community of people, eager to serve and help with their unique gifts and talents.
Makers of Care’s COMPASSION NETWORK connected Yvonne with Zach, an IT guy with a nonprofit focused on assisting those with car issues. He looked over her car and agreed it was unsafe, especially as she was now widowed without close family nearby.
In an incredible gesture of generosity, Zach and his wife gave Yvonne a car he had recently finished fixing up! He went above and beyond paying for the titles, delivering the vehicle in good condition, filling it up with gas, and even assisting Yvonne with selling her 5th wheel and truck!
This is what it means by living the ABUNDANT LIFE! When two faith-based nonprofits collaborate to meet the needs of a widow.
We already know that loneliness is the top struggle for Caregivers and the Surgeon General’s Advisory board just released that loneliness is the #1 threat to health in 2024. Imagine a world where caregiving was not lonely and isolating, where communities came together to provide respite to those serving their family members day in and day out. So often we think that meeting constant and often invisible needs for those unable to help themselves is mundane. It can even feel purposeless in a world that glorifies material achievements and success. Jesus didn’t see it this way and He invites us to join Him in bringing His Kingdom to earth. Two of Jesus’ last interactions (before His crucifixion) with the disciples included washing their feet and praying for them. Jesus sees those in need. Jesus sees Caregivers and the tremendous burdens they carry—often without support or respite.
What an invitation this is to all of us!

Dear Reader, We launched our blog and have curated a group of writers to bless you with their stories about resilience and faith. Enjoy! I remember the night that my prayer for my mom changed from pleading for her healing to pleading for comfort and an easy death. My optimism could no longer create a convincing alternative reality to shelter in. She would not get better. My story is not unique. Caregivers of all kinds can relate to this moment: the moment a spouse loses the ability to speak,...

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?—Isaiah 43:19 Dear Friends, As I write this, I’m eagerly awaiting the birth of my daughter’s twins tomorrow. New life is such a beautiful reminder of God’s grace and the fresh starts He gives us. This season of anticipation has me reflecting on the incredible growth we’ve experienced at Makers of Care, and I’m filled with gratitude for the community that makes this possible.
